[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\tE<\/span>verything seems so easy. Natural. No need to spend a lot of effort. Everything is proceeding on its own. It\u2019s just as it should be. This is what happens when you\u2019re on the right track.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]Andrej was waiting for me at the airport for almost an hour. First<\/span>ly,<\/span> the late flight. <\/span>Secondly,<\/span> the luggage never <\/span>arrived<\/span>. He was sitting calmly on a bench. When he saw me, he quickly came to my aid. It was as if we ha<\/span>dn<\/span>\u2019t seen each other in a month and had to make up for a lot<\/span> of time<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This happens to me a lot. I\u2019m not sure if it\u2019s me<\/span>,<\/span> or the circumstances which lead you to believe you\u2019ve known someone from bef<\/span>ore<\/span>. Yes, I\u2019m an old soul. Very old. <\/span>But this doesn\u2019t mean I know every person I meet from before. A relaxed greeting, a warm squeeze of the hand, an honest hug and being genuine. That is what <\/span>guides<\/span> me. And that is what finally brought me my first job.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Sunshine Coast<\/strong><\/h5>\n

Never, I said. I\u2019m never going to <\/span>be a <\/span>waitress. Why? Because I simply don\u2019t enjoy it. It\u2019s not creative. It\u2019s not genuine. It\u2019s not hones<\/span>t<\/span>. But still. When there\u2019s nothing left, you have to do what you have to do.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It\u2019s not creative. It\u2019s not genuine. It\u2019s not hones<\/span>t<\/span>.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]It was a wonderful, sunny day. Blue skies above me. A sandy beach. Retirees and families. Waves and surfers. This is Sunshine Coast. I proudly walked from one coffee shop to another, from a restaurant to a pizzeria<\/span>,<\/span> and into some pubs. Just to places I liked and would have gone myself. I introduced myself in a few clothing boutiques, where I was kindly greeted by older saleswomen. I guessed they were the owners for many years now and worked there alone<\/span>,<\/span> w<\/span>ithout any additional staff.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534768281059{padding-top: 58px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1534768398573{padding-right: 6px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”8387″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1578378036553{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

\n\tRelaxed afternoon by the beach<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\u201cHello. I\u2019m<\/span> a<\/span> Slovenian that\u2019s travelling across Australia<\/span>,<\/span> and I just moved to Sunshine Coast. I am a communicative person, I learn quickly, I\u2019m ready for any type of work. I speak multiple foreign languages, so tourists will definitely love me. I\u2019m available all days of the week, along with weekends and evenings.\u201d<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

That\u2019s what Andrej advised me.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I never said I had experience.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWhen can you start?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

I don\u2019t like lies, but I still fabricated the truth<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n

I don\u2019t like lies. I don\u2019t like concealment. So<\/span>,<\/span> I looked for every possibility that would allow me to get the experience<\/span>, which<\/span> I could then share with the employers. Even though it was for <\/span>a<\/span> short time, I helped my father in his coffee shop when I was in high school. So<\/span>,<\/span> I did have experience. When you\u2019re facing either work<\/span>ing,<\/span> or ending up without <\/span>anything to eat<\/span>, it\u2019s easier to fabricate the truth.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For the next ten days I waitressed on three different locations <\/span>i<\/span>n three different shifts. Mornings in the coffee shop, lunchtimes and afternoons in a Bavarian restaurant, and in the evening in a restaurant with the best seafood in town.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t easy.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I did it for the first time in my life.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because, after three months of not working, I worked 14 hours a day.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Because I tried to remember three different menus.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Three different types of work. Because the employers were exhausting and treated me like a student without a life.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]Half an hour before my shift, I got a message saying to come an hour later.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Five minutes before the end of my shift, they asked me to stay for two extra hours.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Have I really come so far that I will be doing something I never wanted to do? That they will treat me worse than any employer back home? That I will be miserable, tired, full of blisters and will not notice the beautiful ocean in front of me even for a moment? No. I don\u2019t have to do this.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”8384″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]The customers loved me. Happy, chatty, with an accent they didn\u2019t know how to place.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cSlovenia? Is it next to Russia?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

They asked, when I was serving them sunny-side-up eggs for 18 dollars.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cDid you use to be a part of Czechoslovakia?\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Asked, an older couple, who came for a Carniolan sausage with sour cabbages, thinking it to be a typical Bavarian food.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s where pumpkin seed oil comes from. I saw a programme on TV, about two Slovenians who make pumpkin seed oil in Australia.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Said a nice lady, with whom I exchanged a few ideas about how to use it.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]The customers helped my days pass faster. There were a few <\/span>in-between<\/span> who have already been <\/span>to<\/span> Slovenia or had driven past i<\/span>t<\/span> on their way to sailing<\/span> at<\/span> the Croatian coast. <\/span>They helped me reinforce my belief about how special our little Slovenia is. How quickly people fall in love with ou<\/span>r<\/span> wonders.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_single_image image=”8386″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center”][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

I won\u2019t w<\/span>ork as a waitress<\/span> anymore<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/h5>\n

And how wonderfully they speak about their experiences with Slovenians.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t last long before I affirmed my opinion that waitressing job just isn\u2019t for me. What do I like to do? What would make me happy? How can I make enough money, so that I could save up for new adventures ahead?
