[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\n\n\t“T<\/span>he legendary Slovenian mountaineering expedition that <\/span>climbed<\/span> the eight-<\/span>thousander<\/span> Makalu <\/span>40 years ago <\/span>has returned to the Himalayas. Under the <\/span>leadership<\/span> of Viki <\/span>Gro\u0161el<\/span>j<\/span>, 15 Slovenes<\/span> will commemorate t<\/span>he incredible achievement that <\/span>made history in 1975. The expedition also has a <\/span>charitable<\/span> aspect, which is led by our report<\/span>er<\/span> Anja Kova\u010di\u010d, a member of this year\u2019s expedition. Until the end of November, they are raising money <\/span>to build<\/span> one of the schools <\/span>that were <\/span>destroyed in the devastating April earthquake\u201d <\/span>says<\/span> the introduction <\/span>in<\/span> my first article from Nepal.<\/span><\/p>\n

White mountaintops of six- and seven-<\/span>thousanders<\/span>, crystal clear emerald<\/span> green<\/span> rivers, blue skies and colorful Tibetan prayer flags, fluttering in the wind.\u00a0 This is the idyll of the Himalayan <\/span>landscape<\/span>, <\/span>through which <\/span>our expedition of 15 had been trekking for the <\/span>last<\/span> 13 days. There are so many stories I wish to share with every one of you, but electricity and internet are <\/span>in short supply<\/span> in this beautiful land of smiling faces.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]M<\/span>ore than <\/span>a <\/span>week <\/span>had passed <\/span>since we left Kathmandu on October <\/span>15 <\/span>when I reported for the first time. It was <\/span>in<\/span> the village of Lower Pisang at 3200 meters above sea level. Fortunately, we spent the night in the only hotel with internet <\/span>access<\/span>, which cost me 300 rupees or <\/span>about<\/span> 3 euros.<\/span> A lousy connection made me spend most of the day at a table in the dining room near the router. However, every electronic device needs juice and I had a problem when my tablet battery <\/span>ran out<\/span>. There was <\/span>only<\/span> one free socket left, which I had used for the other computer for <\/span>uploading<\/span> the videos. Th<\/span>at<\/span> meant I could only charge my tablet in the kitchen. For the two <\/span>additional<\/span> sockets there, I had to <\/span>pay an<\/span> additional 100 rupees (just shy of one euro). Nevertheless, the voltage was so low that everything was charging up so slowly that I could not use my tablet that day. I was not able to <\/span>write an article <\/span>or <\/span>send a<\/span> photo.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]I would leave the computer<\/span> completely idle<\/span> for uploading the videos. Although the owner was kind enough to lend me a UTP cable, the connection kept breaking <\/span>down<\/span>. Without exaggeration, up to ten times <\/span>per<\/span> minute. The upload speed ranged from 11 to 20 kbps. I started uploading a video in the afternoon and it took<\/span> me<\/span> until 11 pm. The second video took the whole night.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534765729380{padding-top: 38px !important;padding-bottom: 36px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Knowing that I like to burn the midnight oil,<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

the owner <\/span>gave<\/span> me the keys to the hotel<\/span><\/span>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Knowing that I like to burn the midnight oil, the owner <\/span>gave<\/span> me the keys to the hotel and told me to shut the lights and lock the doors before going to bed. I gave him <\/span>back <\/span>the key<\/span>s<\/span> at half past five in the morning <\/span>when<\/span> we met in the dining room<\/span> during breakfast<\/span>. I spent four hours trying to upload everything I had prepared but I <\/span>was not successful<\/span>. Eight e-mails, the videos again from the beginning. I stopped the upload of my photos at 27 percent. There had been no progress <\/span>in<\/span> the past two hours. My battery was almost empty and there was no empty <\/span>outlet<\/span>. I sent what I sent. I paid 300 rupees.
