It<\/span>\u2019<\/span>s something that reminds me<\/span> that<\/span> it\u2019s worth it every time I find myself <\/span>thinking <\/span>whether or not I should spend my last cent on a plane ticket.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]Every trip is worth much more than a plane ticket, or the most expensive coffee you can afford. It\u2019s worth every second of <\/span>seeing <\/span>a unique sunset. <\/span>To feel a<\/span>n unknown breeze of Australian wind. <\/span>To touch e<\/span>very raindrop of tropical rain that doesn\u2019t allow your clothes to dry. And <\/span>to feel <\/span>that drop that runs down your body <\/span>because of<\/span> excessive moisture. But it\u2019s worth it. <\/span>It\u2019s worth the realization that we have jewels at home. Green jewels of beautiful nature.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534768281059{padding-top: 58px !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1534768398573{padding-right: 6px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”8449″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1579421043545{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

\n\tBaroon Falls<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]\u201cThere are thousands upon thousands of wonderful waterfalls that await you in Australia,\u201d I told myself. Each one of them is going to be something special. <\/span>On top of a hill overlooking the Coral Sea and the overpraised gondola, the panoramic chairlift, <\/span>the <\/span>Baroon<\/span> Falls<\/span> are hidden. <\/span>A tourist attraction<\/span>, r<\/span>ight next to the <\/span>Kuranda<\/span> village. On my birthday. \u201cThis is it?\u201d A street filled with shops where tourists buy \u2018Australian\u2019 products, and the falls, which are smaller than expected at the end of <\/span>the <\/span>wet<\/span> season<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Expectations. The expectations I\u2019ve had before arriving to this enormous island were much too high. Just like this waterfall that didn\u2019t impress me. Why? In Slovenia, we have this amazing nature that nothing can measure up to<\/span>,<\/span> and I\u2019ve also seen <\/span>many <\/span>more beautiful natural wonders elsewhere in the world. Did I really have to come this far just to be reminded how nice it is back home? No, this isn\u2019t me being homesick. After I\u2019ve traveled <\/span>to <\/span>so many countries, I don\u2019t even know how to be homesick anymore. Except in the mornings when I miss the smell of freshly-made coffee from <\/span>Celje\u2019s<\/span> retro Emo <\/span>pot.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534765729380{padding-top: 38px !important;padding-bottom: 36px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

Did I really have to come this far just to be reminded how nice it is back home? <\/span><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n

[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I\u2019ll admit it. It\u2019s nice here. Everything<\/span> is<\/span> green. Those tropical plants that I <\/span>carefully <\/span>keep watering back home, in their white ceramic pots, talking to them so they\u2019ll grow up <\/span>reaching<\/span> the heavens, follow me on every corner in tropical Cairns. Through thickly-woven branches, on the wet, slippery floor<\/span>,<\/span> I make my way to the red basins. The locals love them. I don\u2019t know why. They\u2019re not deep enough to jump into. They\u2019re not big enough to swim in. The sun doesn\u2019t reach these hidden corners in order to warm up the body. But they\u2019re hidden. So I find my peace here. Though they never measure up to our <\/span>So\u010da<\/span>. But they have wonderful waterfalls at the top; Crystal Cascades made for a water massage. If a water python doesn\u2019t peek around the corner. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534768281059{padding-top: 58px !important;}”][vc_column css=”.vc_custom_1534768398573{padding-right: 6px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”8447″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1579420787687{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

\n\tBeautiful tropical birds dining during breakfast<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]As<\/span> I go on a trip a bit further inside, I realize how much I\u2019m actually enthused by the mountains. Just a few meters tall, green hills that <\/span>rise<\/span> up next to the beach and create plateaus, which hide a few more watery wonders. Josephine Falls. The first waterfall that amazed me. A wonderful, large basin at the top, where it\u2019s not allowed to swim due to powerful tides that have swallowed too many swimmers. These falls are something special, as the water runs from the highest point of Queensland, Mount Bartle Frere, and are specially worshipped by the Aboriginals.<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] By sunset and on my way home, I drive by Walsh\u2019s Pyramid<\/span>. A solid 900 meters tall cone represents one of the hardest climbs for the locals. Each year, they organize a run up the pyramid,<\/span> which they say <\/span>that it\u2019s<\/span> the hardest of this sort. \n\tJosephine Falls<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Here in Australia, everything is the –<\/span>EST<\/span>. The second <\/span>tall<\/span>EST<\/span> mountain in the region, the <\/span>bigg<\/span>EST<\/span> amusement park in Eastern Australia, <\/span>everything the -EST. And signs everywhere. <\/span>Attention<\/span>, a turn. <\/span>Attention<\/span>, the pavement. <\/span>Attention<\/span>, two turns. <\/span>Attention<\/span>, kangaroos on the road. U-turns are allowed in a cross-section. And the best sign: turn left. In a turn that goes left. Sometimes, I feel a bit dumb around here. Open the wardrobe. I\u2019m looking for the dress that I haven\u2019t worn <\/span>in a <\/span>month. It\u2019s moldy. Now I understand why no one uses wardrobes. All clothes simply hang on the hangers, that hang next to each other on beams all over the apartment. It\u2019s the only way to save yourself from moldy clothes. I take everything off the hangers and wash it. Dry it in the dryer. Hang <\/span>it <\/span>around<\/span> the room. Like the locals do<\/span>. And no, the Aboriginals aren\u2019t the locals. <\/span>My desire for how much I want to get to know their culture has led me to resign to the truth about who they are and how they live. In reality. Today. And not how they used to live years ago. Before they(we) took their land.
