Like many people around the world, I have been taken a bit by the corona spontaneity. I could say disorganization, but spontaneity <\/span>sound<\/span>s<\/span> much better.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]I go to sleep when I feel like it, I wake up when I feel<\/span> like it and I eat when I\u2019m hungry. E<\/span>verything else, <\/span>I do <\/span>in time. And today <\/span>has been a<\/span> laundry day.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534768281059{padding-top: 58px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1534768398573{padding-right: 6px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”9614″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1588304597853{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

\n\t\u201cWe\u2019ve been having afternoon storms all week long.\u201d<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Firstly, <\/span>I drink a freshly-squeezed lemonade with lemons from our garden<\/span> on an empty stomach, and <\/span>do <\/span>my morning body balance to invigorate the <\/span>body<\/span> and the <\/span>spirit<\/span>. I skip meditation because I\u2019<\/span>m wildly craving coffee. While I wait for the water to boil, I arrange the patch in front of the main <\/span>entrance<\/span>, where I\u2019m still waiting for some of the plants to recover after the <\/span>cyclone<\/span>,<\/span> since<\/span> the ocean managed to salt them<\/span> nicely<\/span>.<\/span> I daily remove those that are beyond salvation, so the survivors can breathe easily.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534765729380{padding-top: 38px !important;padding-bottom: 36px !important;}”][vc_column]

\n\tEvery week we bring crushed chorales, sand, seashells and
pebbles, which we simply call sand here.<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]After my morning coffee, which I occasionally make for Barbara as well (for those that have forgotten, the housekeeper that\u2019s in charge of cleanliness in the house), I heat up some water until it\u2019s lukewarm and soak the laundry. Then I go about sorting the <\/span>pebbles<\/span> on the pathway we have been arranging for two <\/span>week<\/span>s. Every <\/span>week<\/span> we bring crushed chorales, sand, seashells and pebbles, which we simply call sand here, from the beach. For me, these are chorales and seashells. There are some bigger ones in between, which are uncomfortable to walk on barefoot. <\/span>Since I came here, I\u2019ve mostly been barefoot. \n\t\u201cThe house is slowly getting a nice shape.\u201d<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]I sort the pebbles and create a pathway edge that the ocean had washed away three <\/span>week<\/span>s ago. The house is slowly getting a nice shape. The trees are blooming. Sprouts are peeking from the earth. The flowers that survived are <\/span>stretching <\/span>towards the sky and reaching for the sun. There are three palm trees still waiting to be chopped down and removed; the ocean had uprooted them when it washed away a large chunk of earth underneath their feet. My green thumb is useful for repotting the flowers to places that I see have been left bare.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]After I brush the clothes, I treat myself to a fresh coconut, which I had managed to get off the tree and into the fridge two <\/span>week<\/span>s ago. <\/span>I prefer the taste of coconut water. <\/span>When I scoop out the coconut meat, I clean the shell and leave it in the sun. \u201cThis one\u2019s coming home with me. I\u2019ll use it as a cup, so that every morning I\u2019ll remember these corona days that I\u2019<\/span>ve<\/span> spen<\/span>t<\/span> in a tropical paradise,\u201d I say to myself as I determinately remove the shell.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534768281059{padding-top: 58px !important;}”][vc_column width=”1\/2″ css=”.vc_custom_1534768398573{padding-right: 6px !important;}”][vc_single_image image=”9606″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1588305020829{padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”]

\n\t\u201cRapati - the most spoiled dog in the world!\u201d<\/h2>[\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row css=”.vc_custom_1534771917857{padding-top: 10px !important;}”][vc_column][vc_column_text]I answer a few emails, cuddle with <\/span>Rapati<\/span> (the most spoiled dog in the world!), cook my favorite cassava and prepare the simples<\/span>t<\/span> salad. What follows, of course, is another coffee and the afternoon arrives. The whole of April has been cloudy. We\u2019ve been having afternoon storms all <\/span>week<\/span> long. Something\u2019s coming today as well.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”9px”][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n

The sun sets <\/span>sometime<\/span> after six, which can\u2019t be seen today due to the rain <\/span>and it gets dark immediately. The day is over. It\u2019s been 40 days on the Solomon Islands. And I still haven\u2019t seen anything.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This doesn\u2019t bother me anymore. The fact is, I have many obligations that I\u2019ve brought upon myself and the day goes by in a flash. The sights are closed, the agencies not operating and I\u2019m planning on going to the islands as soon I feel like I need to change location. When I decide to <\/span>wander out of Honiara, I probably won\u2019t be \u2018home\u2019 for a month. During this <\/span>time,<\/span> I know I\u2019ll completely disconnect from everything.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

I\u2019ve had enough information about what\u2019s happening back home in Slovenia: how they\u2019re messing around with money, making fools out of citizens and digging themselves a larger and larger hole. What\u2019s financial and moral? If we, as a nation, forget what they\u2019re doing during an epidemic, we don\u2019t deserve different leadership. Let\u2019s leave politics aside. McDonald\u2019s, people?! Seriously? When you could have enjoyed homemade food, <\/span><\/span>this<\/span><\/span> was your greatest need? <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

This information has been circling around for a few days. When I woke up that morning and saw a video of the queue on <\/span>Celov\u0161ka<\/span> on every story, Barbara and I were drinking coffee<\/span>. Bewildered<\/span>,<\/span> I show her how stupid people are in the developed world. She watches the video. I explain to her that people had waited several hours for super healthy fast food. <\/span>S<\/span>he falls silent. Looks at me. And asks: \u201cWhat is McDonald’s?\u201d She made my day. I put down my phone at that moment and went to work in<\/span> the garden.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
